Newsletter - June 2022
Another meeting behind and a promising summer is right in front of us. The survey phase of our quantitative survey is complete, the country reports have been finished and work is ongoing on our materials for international teachers, mentors and school leaders and for use in teacher education and in-service training.
Challenges and opportunities in 7 European countries
The quantitative survey has been running between October 2021 and February 2022. The online survey was conducted in Belgium, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Poland, Slovenia, Sweden and Turkey with a total participation of 158 people from these countries. The survey is part of a stocktaking project on the challenges and opportunities of the professional re-entry of international teachers in the partner countries. The aim is to systematise the current situation in the different countries and to process it on across-national basis. The results of the survey will be evaluated in the coming months. A focus will be placed on the question of actual and necessary support for international teachers in schools and which factors can positively or negatively influence the integration of international teachers.
The analysis will be summarised in a contribution to our edited volume. Further contributions are the country reports of the individual project partners, which present framework conditions for the professional re-entry of international teachers in the individual countries.
We are very excited to learn about the experiencesof international teachers through the survey and look forward for the commonedited volume!
Worksheets and handouts take shape
Over the past months, we have collected many ideas and developed concepts for the creation of our materials. Existing sources were reviewed, materials were adapted and prepared, and new ideas were implemented. Above all, it is about sharing the experiences of the different countries within the consortium and preparing the materials so that they can be used in different countries, regions and contexts. These work processes consist of many discussions: we try to explain and understand and learn about education systems, applied methods and perspectives from our colleagues.
At our meeting in Iceland in May, we presented the preliminary results of the small groups. A handout with reflection materials and recommendations is being prepared for mentors and school administrators. A “toolkit” for international teachers is to support this target group itself, especially with regard to professional language competences and the difficulties of system change. In addition, a collection of different methods and workshop concepts on the main topic of intercultural competence and diversity is being created for the training and further education of teachers.
The results will then be published on our project website.
Let's meet in Iceland - on the geographical edge of Europe
For our second face-to-face meeting last month, our travels took us to Reykjavik to visit our project partners from Intercultural Iceland.
For more information on the meeting, please read our blog entry from the Nesrin.
Our next meeting will be in October in Maribor and we are very much looking forward to this special experience and the mutual exchange during the meeting.
